Last year the Glasgow auditions gave us John and Edward Grimes aka Jedward. How could Simon Cowell and co. possibly uncover more top talent like that (ahem) when they hit Scotland earlier this year? Thankfully, they did.

In the first episode of The X Factor 2010, viewers were treated to the beautiful voice of Gamuchirai Nhengu.

Nhengu moved to Scotland from Zimbabwe in 2005 and decided to go along to the Glasgow auditions to showcase her stunning voice.

She performed a unique version of Walking On Sunshine and although Simon Cowell wasn’t instantly impressed with her song choice, this young lady quickly won him over with her rousing performance.

Speaking before her audition, Nhengu explained that she wanted to be remembered as “somebody that people talk about”.

Following her performance, Simon Cowell praised the 18-year-old telling her she sounded like a “cool old-school jazz singer from the ’20s or ’30s”.

He added: “To be honest with you, that is one of my worst songs ever, but you did something different with it.
“I really, really, really like you! You are very talented.”

Louis Walsh described her as “soulful” and “likeable”, while Cheryl Cole admitted that she was “really excited” by the performance.

Guest judge Geri Halliwell told a tearful Nhengu that her mother will be “proud” of her.

So Nhengu is through to Bootcamp. Do you think she is good enough to make it through to the live finals? Who do you think performed well in tonight’s show? Do you have a favourite from show one? Use our comment system to tell us.

X-CITED!
