Video of Belle Amie singing ‘I’ll Stand By You’ by The Pretenders during the third live show of X Factor UK 2010 on Saturday 23rd October. Are you standing by Belle Amie or did your votes desert them this week?
Unfortunately the ‘Guilty Pleasures’ theme may prove to be the girl bands darkest hour as they received mixed comments from the Judges. Louis Walsh blamed Simon Cowell, and their last minute song change telling Belle Amie “Well I think you are potentially a really great girl band but you’ve got a problem, you’re on your own in this competition. Simon is putting all his energies into boyband One Direction and it’s not fair. It’s not fair and that’s why you picked that song. It wasn’t a great song choice but what were you to do? You’ve no mentor. It’s not right.”
Dannii Minogue congratulated Belle Amie on their look saying “Girls the styling has improved, I don’t think you’re quite there but it’s improved a lot.” However she wasn’t impressed by their song and added “I think that the song choice wasn’t surprising, it didn’t have that wow factor in it but it was good. It’s a tough night tonight because I think a lot of songs could have got very cheesy but it’s been a really high standard and that’s why you’re finding it difficult.”
Fortunately for Belle Amie, Cheryl Cole had positive things to say “I have to say you’ve got great taste in music. It’s a great song choice, it’s very sentimental for me, because I feel like I want to be up there singing it with you.”
Where as Simon Cowell, the newly formed girl bands mentor, seemed more intent on proving a point to Louis Walsh as he said “Louis why do you have to be so nasty, unpleasant and bitchy. The girls wanted to make their own sing decision, they are not puppets. In fact John should have done exactly what the girls did.”
Fortunately, Simon Cowell did manage to give Belle Amie some final words of encouragement as he said “Girls, it wasn’t the most original version in the world but the important thing was it showed that you’re a group, that you can make your own decisions, that you’re good singers and I think you did great.”
