Video of Aiden Grimshaw singing ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson during the fourth live show on X Factor UK 2010 on Saturday 30th October. Did Aiden’s Halloween performance stop your heart or will he be fighting for his life this week?
Unfortunately for Aiden Grimshaw most of the X Factor judges were not thrilled by his version of the Michael Jackson song as Louis Walsh told the 18-year-old student from Blackpool “A big challenge. Dannii you gave him a really really big challenge giving him a Michael Jackson song. You totally changed the song, it was a very very intense performance. It might not be everybody’s cup of tea but I really like it. I think you are a genuine, real music artist.”
Cheryl Cole said “It was a really brave thing to do, to take such an iconic song that everyone associates definitely with the Halloween theme and with a massive dance production. I can’t work out in my mind if that was really right or really wrong. I don’t think every song requires that amount of intensity, I would like to see you smile a little bit.”
Simon Cowell was also unsure about Aiden’s performance saying “It was bizarre, you and 25 dummies on stage. My feeling is, I think it needed to pickup tempo much sooner. I think it was indulgent, even though some people will like it, it was too much to the left. It’s frustrating because it could have been fantastic but it was too slow, too long.”
Fortunately Aiden’s mentor, Dannii Minogue, felt he deserved a second chance as she confirmed “You did everything that was asked of you. I don’t think people give you enough credit. You are 18 years old and you have grown so much since your first performance.”

Unfortunately I didn’t like this version of Thriller, but then Aidan was up against Michael Jackson and nobody can do it better than him. I really like Aidan though and love his voice. I just wish that his coaches and mentors would get it right for him, otherwise he is wasting his time trying to win this competition. He has the ability but it is now all down to the songs he sings. I would stick to copying the original versions. rather than trying to put his own stamp on it. I really think that people judge these contestants on how well they they can do the original version and they don’t have enough time to get to like another version. It is too big of a risk to try and alter the original because people have come accustomed to the original version and anything else sounds “off”. Best of luck Aidan, I think you are gorgeous and have a fabulous voice. You have already proved that.
